How do Airbus, Boeing, Bombardier and Embraer US-traded shares compare over the past five years, especially given COVID and the war in Ukraine?
A non-US company traded in dollars in the United States will be heavily impacted by the exchange rate (USD vs. underlying domestic currency) at any given time.
Boeing's overall declining stock price also was due to pressure on the company after the fatal B737 MAX crashes and recent B787 issues.
Embraer's falling price can in large part be attributed to the cancelation of Boeing's purchase of Embraer's commercial jets division.
Bombardier's significant dip in July 2018 was related to the sale of a majority stake to Airbus in the C Series, now known as the A220.
Airbus has maintained a healthy and growing backlog of its A320 family, which has also helped its share price.
With the relaxation in most countries of COVID measures, air travel is slowly picking up again. However, the current war in Ukraine has also put more pressure on supply chains worldwide, delaying the production of essential aircraft parts. Airbus and Boeing both benefit from the military aircraft sector, with many countries reevaluating their strategic military aircraft and purchasing newer and more versatile ones.
